A community scheme to bring broadband to rural areas which would otherwise not be served has been connected.
B4RN East Anglia, a branch of Broadband for the Rural North, has launched its service at Scole Community Centre, near Diss, which is now connected to 1,000 Mbps broadband. The not-for-profit organisation secures investment from villagers before rolling out its service into new areas.
So far the local community has installed approximately seven kilometres of duct with the help of B4RN's engineers and has secured investment to roll it out to Billingford, Upper Street, Thelveton and Shimpling.
Clive Blakesley, chairman of Scole Community Centre, said: 'It has the potential to benefit not only the community centre and the groups that use it but the whole village, including local businesses and home workers.'
