The winners of the Best Employers Eastern Region 2018 scheme were announced during a conference in Newmarket, held to celebrate the scheme's successes and discuss its findings.

Among the winners in the initiative – which saw more than 15,000 employees have their say on their company's performance, culture, staff training and engagement levels – were LSI Architects, digital marketing firm Fountain Partnership and ingredients supplier Treatt.

The scheme was led by its founders recruitment agency Pure and psychometric experts Eras, along with publishing group Archant and law firm Birketts.

Lynn Walters, executive director of Pure, said: 'The awards will help the winners' employer brands and will help them to recruit, attract and retain talent.

'It gives us all an opportunity to share the success and talk about these organisations to discuss what made them stand out.'

Of the event she said: 'There have been so many ideas that have come out, both from organisations with money that are doing great things with technology and property but also companies who don't have that kind of investment power but are doing innovative things to get the most out of their people. It is heartening to see how seriously people take this in their organisations.'

Jeanette Wheeler, partner at Birketts, added: 'Birketts has been thrilled to be part of this journey and I have been hugely inspired over the years by being part of the scheme.'

The biennial initiative aims to help create better places to work for the benefit of employers and employees while also recognising companies in the region who go the extra mile to keep their staff engaged and happy.

New for this year is the Best Employers accreditation scheme, which saw more than 40 businesses who scored highly for employee engagement in the survey commended with gold, platinum or 'one to watch' status.

At the conference at the Rowley Mile Racecourse in Newmarket, Paul Henderson from Eras told delegates that the survey had seen its biggest ever response, with the number of companies taking part doubling to around 140 and the number of employees who left feedback also doubling.
