An accountancy firm has expanded its footprint in Fakenham with the acquisition of another business in the town.

Stephenson Smart, which is based in Great Yarmouth, has bought Harris Kafton - Fakenham, which was owned by Mark Halford who has decided to retire due to ill health. As part of the handover all Harris Kafton's clients will transfer to Stephenson Smart's Oak Street team.

Mr Halford employed his wife Katrina, who will also retire, while staff member Ann Mason will work with Stephenson Smart, bringing with her experience of bookkeeping and payroll.

Stephenson Smart partner Martyn Benstead said there were plans to take on extra staff to support the swelling client base. He said: 'We have already employed a new trainee accountant and we plan to take on more.'

He added Mr Halford will continue in a consultative capacity to provide a smooth transition.
