A strike by hundreds of bus drivers in Norfolk on Monday has been suspended as negotiations to end a year-long pay dispute continue. Almost 250 drivers working for First Eastern Counties in Norwich were set to walk out, sparking fears of traffic problems and overcrowded buses.
A strike by hundreds of bus drivers in Norfolk on Monday has been suspended as negotiations to end a year-long pay dispute continue.
Almost 250 drivers working for First Eastern Counties in Norwich were set to walk out, sparking fears of traffic problems and overcrowded buses.
But, following further talks on Tuesday, a joint statement said: “Following negotiations with First Eastern Counties Buses Ltd, the Transport & General Workers Union has agreed to suspend the proposed industrial action to allow further negotiation to take place.
“Both parties remain committed to resolving this issue so that bus users in Norwich are not inconvenienced.”
The strike would have affected all services in and around the city and buses from Norwich to towns including Fakenham, Lowestoft, Watton, Wym-ondham, Sheringham and Cromer.
