Burglars steal 60,000 from Mid Suffolk outbuildings in a month

More than 60,000 worth of possessions have been stolen from garages, sheds and workshops across Mid Suffolk in the last month, police said today.

Officers at Suffolk Police are urging people to keep their outbuildings secure following 29 burglaries in the district between March 29 and April 28.

Eleven of those crimes involved properties that were unlocked or open. Items stolen include lawnmowers, bicycles, tools, clothing, food and electrical equipment.

Mid Suffolk Safer Neighbourhood Team Inspector Tristan Pepper said: 'As the evenings get lighter and the weather improves, criminals can take advantage of us spending more time outdoors, leaving outbuildings open or not putting away that expensive item.'

'Items as insignificant as frozen food, or as expensive as a ride-on lawnmower have been stolen from outbuildings in Mid Suffolk over the past month. For all the break-ins there is the additional cost of repairing the damage as well as replacing anything taken.'
