The biggest night in Norfolk's social year has almost arrived when the champagne will be flowing and the group Buck's Fizz will be bringing the glamour, while guests will be able to bid for some fantastic auction prizes.

The Eastern Daily Press and its sister titles are proud to support the inaugural Norfolk and Norwich Press Ball, which will take place at the Norfolk Showground tomorrow and will feature a cabaret performance from the pop group, famous for their 1981 Eurovision-winning hit Making Your Mind Up and the chance to bid for 40 prizes in a silent auction and 14 prizes in the main auction.

Tables are selling fast for this unique event, with 27 tables having already been claimed and proceeds from the event will go to a number of charities, including the Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind (NNAB), which supports the blind and visually impaired and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, to help find a cure for the life-threatening genetic condition, which destroys the lungs and digestive system.

Guests will arrive at 6.45pm for a Bucks Fizz reception, followed by a special sit down meal at 7.30pm featuring fine dining supplied by some of Norfolk's top producers, including hot kiln smoked salmon on a horseradish spinach roulade for starter, honey and cayenne roasted breast of Gressingham duck for main course and fresh lime cheesecake with sloe gin syrup and a spicy ginger basil soil for dessert. Bidders will be able to text for their favourite lot at the silent auction, which includes two tickets to the Aviva Premiership rugby final at Twickenham in May 2014, a round of golf for three people at Barnham Broom with former Norwich City star Jeremy Goss or another ex-Canary and a champagne balloon flight.

The main auction will include the opportunity to have a perfume designed by Ipswich-based Omega Ingredients, which makes perfumes for famous people around the world, a visit to the Apache army helicopters based at Wattisham and a visit to the Spitfires and Hurricanes with the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight in Lincolnshire.

Eastern Daily Press editor Nigel Pickover said: 'We are absolutely thrilled that we have managed to get such a big crowd at this inaugural ball and we hope it will be a runaway success.' Ball organiser Mick Parker, who has staged elaborate balls for the EDP's sister papers in Suffolk, said: 'We are really looking forward to a great night.
