Hundreds of people celebrated the Queen's Diamond Jubilee at a street party outside the Budgen's store in The Street, Brundall today.

The road was closed to allow the party to go ahead and some of the attractions included classic cars, stalls by Brundall School, a 1952 fancy dress competition and historical memorabilia.

There was a chance to sit down and enjoy refreshments, with 1950s-style home baking, in one of the gardens opposite the post office.

Among those celebrating were Philippa Owen and Glyn Evans, from Brundall, and 10-year-old Sian Evans, who lives in Gorleston.

The trio and Ben the dog came dressed in Union Jack flags, and Ms Owen said: 'We wanted to come to see what it was all about. We've never been to a street party before.'

Co-organiser of the event, Lee Pearce, who is the store manager at Budgen's, said: 'We were hoping to get a couple of hundred people, and we never thought that virtually everybody in Brundall and surrounding villages would turn up. The queue for the barbecue was enormous, and we were blessed by the weather, as well.'

The event was funded by Budgen's, Brundall Parish Council and Norfolk County Council's Year of Celebration Fund.
