A local Brownie troop will be pulling on their walking boots this weekend to raise money for a charity that provides hospital patients and care home residents with visits from cats and dogs.

The 38th Norwich Brownie unit were inspired to organise the sponsored walk around Eaton Park after they were visited by the Pets As Therapy group as part of an animals badge.

Samantha Hubbard, district commissioner of Earlham Girlguiding, said: 'The girls were really moved by the video showing the great work the charity does for those in need.'

Half of the money raised will be donated to the organisation, the rest will fund the Brownie troop's annual summer party.

Ms Hubbard continued: 'I'm immensely proud of what the girls are doing. Hopefully it will be a fantastic event and we will raise lots of money.'

The sponsored walk takes place on Friday, May 22.
