Two soon-to-be newlyweds celebrated their nuptials in style by dressing in their wedding finery for a parkrun.

Stacey Owen, 36, and Jim Mockford, 31, will marry on Friday, October 26, but spent their last Saturday before tieing the knot working up a sweat around the five kilometre course around Thetford.

Miss Owen and Mr Mockford are race directors of the parkrun, with more than 250 people taking part each week.

And ahead of their wedding, they challenged their regular runners to take on the course in bridesmaids dresses, wedding dresses, suits, veils, and shirts and ties to mark the happy occassion, with more than 60 joining in.

Miss Owen said: “It was really good and really nice that they all got involved as we didn’t know if anyone would get dressed up until the morning.

“We just thought that as it was our wedding week it would might be fun!”

She added: “A lot of people got quite involved. The groom wore his top hat and tails, not his real ones! A lot of people wore bridesmaids’ dresses, some people wore their dresses from 1990 too.

“There were also a few page boys and a few people with veils and garters and we were quite surprised by the amount of people who came along and joined in.

Some of the serious runners still had their shorts on but had a veil or a shirt and tie too.”

Miss Owen and Mr Mockford met more than four years ago through parkrun.

Having taken part in many runs and never met, the sparks were finally given a chance to fly when they met on a team event.

There are no plans for a running themed wedding, however, with the happy couple due to get married at Woolpit St Mary’s Church on Friday followed by an afternoon tea style reception.

The honeymoon, however, is more of a mystery, with Miss Owen completely in the dark about what her soon-to-be husband has planned.

She said: “The honeymoon has been booked by the groom and it is going to be a total surprise!”
