But one Lyng couple, who married on Saturday December 16, bravely took to the ice after saying 'I do' to recreate their first date.

Tim and Lucy Kemp skated on Norwich Ice Rink on Castle Mall Gardens in their wedding finery following their ceremony at Norwich Castle - the city's register office.

The couple, who have a three-year-old daughter together called Lara, had their first date 11 years ago on the ice rink outside the Forum in Norwich.

They got engaged six years ago.

Mrs Kemp, 36, nee Forster, said: 'We wanted to rekindle that moment at our wedding. It was a bit daunting because it has been a while since we have been on the ice. At least we didn't fall over.

'It has been a brilliant day. It is going to be so memorable.'

She added it was a coincidence that her wedding day was held the same time the Eastern Daily Press and Norwich Evening News rink ice rink was up.

The couple's turn on the ice attracted a crowd of people young and old.

Mr Kemp, 45, a forklift engineer, said: 'It was really good. I was nervous about falling over on my backside. It was good fun.'

Speaking about his new bride Mr Kemp added: 'She is beautiful. She has always been beautiful.'

He said he originally thought they would only get pictures on the ice and not do any skating but added his wife 'took it a bit further'.

Debbie Burrell, head of events at Archant, said: 'I was really pleased to recreate Tim and Lucy's first date.'

It is the second year the Norwich Ice Rink, sponsored by the Sleeping Beauty pantomime at the Norwich Theatre Royal, has been a festive attraction in the city.

Mrs Burrell added that since it launched on December 15, the majority of the 100 places for each 45-minute session had been filled.

The rink is open until January 7 and tickets cost £12 per adult and £8 for children and concessions.
