A recently launched sausage roll which showcases the culinary delights of the Brecks has won praise from a TV comic and broadcaster.

Al Murray headed to CoCoes café at Strattons Hotel in Swaffham on Monday after his show, Al Murray: The Only Way is Epic, in Norwich on Sunday evening.

He tucked into the Breckland sausage roll – a specially made sausage roll created from locally sourced meat and vegetables.

Impressed, he then told his 296,783 followers on Twitter just how much he enjoyed the savoury treat.

On the social networking site, he said: 'Best. Sausage roll. Ever. Strattons in Swaffham. Mmm-hmm tuck into that.'

Strattons manager Vanessa Scott said to receive such high-profile praise was 'fantastic'.

She said: 'We made that sausage roll as a really specific product from the Brecks and as a way of pushing this area so it was really lovely having him tweet. All the staff were really excited.

'To have someone like him come in and to give that kind of feedback is really nice. I shouted out to him 'thank you so much for the tweet' and he said 'you are so welcome, they were brilliant'.'

The Brecks sausage roll is the result of three years of experimentation, tweaking and sourcing local food at CoCoes cafe at Strattons Hotel in Swaffham.

The culinary masterpiece was finally unleashed at a Norfolk tourism event held in Norwich in March.

The recipe contains equal amounts of meat and vegetables, and includes rare breed pork sausage meat from Impson Butchers in Swaffham, black pudding from the Fruit Pig Company in Emneth, potatoes from Heygate Farms in Swaffham, vegetables from the Elveden Estate and herbs from the grounds of Strattons.

In response to Al Murray's tweet, television presenter Jake Humphrey, the new president of the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association (RNAA), said on Twitter: 'That's Norfolk for you Al. We get the important things right.'

Mrs Scott, who is on the board for the Eastern Daily Press and Adnams Norfolk Food and Drink Festival, added: 'Everything we can do to promote the county and the fact that we have fantastic produce is really important.'

The Norfolk Food and Drink Festival, held in association with Norfolk County Council, will run from August 31. As part of the event, the Brecks Food and Drink Festival Weekend will be held from September 14 to 16.
