Emergency services were called to land behind the BP Service Station, on the A11, at about 10pm on Tuesday after the 11 year old and 12 year old disappeared on Abbey Heath.

The youngsters, both from the town, went playing in the woods, but were reported missing when they were not home by nightfall.

Police descended on the site and discovered the eldest boy, safe and well, at 1am yesterday.

A fire crew from Thetford was called at about 3.30am yesterday to assist with the search using thermal imaging equipment.

The 11-year-old boy was finally returned home by police at 4.30am.

“They were reported missing because it was getting dark. There is no suggestion of anything more happening other than they just happened to get lost,” she said.
