An 11-year-old boy brandishing a toy light sabre came to the aid of his mother when she was assaulted by a man in the street.

A man in his late thirties punched the woman on the arm and verbally abused her in front of her son and six-year-old daughter. The attack happened at about 11am on December 22 outside Fruit Cakes bakery on Main Road, Swardeston, near Norwich.

Police said her son came to his mother's aid by hitting the attacker with a toy light sabre.

PC Allan Jennings said: “The incident caused quite a commotion and it is unlikely it would have gone unnoticed. I would appeal for anyone who saw what happened to contact me.”
