An 11-year-old boy seriously injured in the Boxing Day crash which killed his mother is in a stable condition.

The boy suffered head injuries when a red Toyota Hi-Lux and a grey Citroen C3 collided on the A149 at Bengate, near North Walsham, at about 9.45am on Sunday.

Two air ambulances and fire crews from North Walsham and Stalham were called to the scene, but the 40-year-old driver of the Citroen was pronounced dead at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

The boy is being treated at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and his condition was tonight being described as 'stable'

His 13-year-old sister, also travelling in the Citroen, received minor injuries and has been released from hospital.
