Parents at a Great Yarmouth primary school came together to discuss how to improve their child’s reading at the second Books for Breakfast event.
The event, which share reading strategies and give parents the opportunity to share some great books across a range of different age ranges, including some new and classic authors, took place on Tuesday, April 24.
Armed with bacon butties, pastries, and tea and coffee, 24 parents of Edward Worlledge Ormiston Academy pupils enjoyed some “speed book dating” and a chance to come together and discuss some of the issues around reading at home.
A donation from the Big Issue also enabled parents to take away a fantastic range of children’s books at the end of the session.
One parent, Donna Derbyshire, said: “It’s been so beneficial to speak with teachers and others about reading materials and techniques that may keep my son interested in reading and to feel reassured that I am helping my son with his literacy too.”
