It is one of the most talked-about developments for years and now the public can get a sneak preview of what the planned new £52.7m council headquarters in Lowestoft will look like.

The state-of-the-art Waveney Campus building will soar from the banks of Lake Lothing to house 1,000 council and science staff by the autumn of 2010, if planning permission is granted.

And now members of the public can see for themselves how designers intend the building to look by viewing a set of artist's impressions on a new website.

The Waveney Campus website was launched last week by the public-sector partners who intend to move from current sites to the new building at Riverside Road.

A statement on the site, www.waveneycampus.co.uk, says: "The proposed plans will transform the largely derelict waterfront into an attractive public space. The area will be landscaped in an environmentally sensitive manner and will provide an attractive space with a public footway along the restored waterfront."

The campus will house staff from Waveney District Council, Suffolk County Council and the prestigious Lowestoft-based Cefas marine science laboratory.

There will be an emphasis on using recycled materials where possible, while up to 15pc of the building's energy requirements will be met from zero and low carbon technologies.

A series of exhibitions will be held early next year to give members of the public the opportunity to table their views about the plans. See the campus website for further details.
