A body found in the water at a Broadland beauty spot was last night identified as a 44-year-old Portuguese man from the Norwich area.

The man, who will not be named until formal identification has been carried out, had been working in Wymondham and was reported missing on Monday, October 16.

His body was discovered by a holidaying birdwatcher just after 4pm on Tuesday in Breydon Water at Burgh Castle.

His death remained unexplained following a post-mortem examination yesterday, although it showed he had not been the victim of a violent attack.

Police believe the victim was drinking with friends in the Yarmouth area on the afternoon and evening of Saturday, October 14, and appealed for anyone who may have seen him during this period to come forward. He was wearing a hooded top with cut-off sleeves, dark jeans and white trainers.

Senior investigating officer Det Insp Andy Guy, of Yarmouth CID, said: "I would appeal to any witnesses, particularly anyone from the Portuguese community, who recognises this description to contact the investigation team." Contact Det Insp Guy on 0845 456 4567.
