An investigation has been launched after the body of a woman was found last night.

The woman, believed to be in her 40s, was found by a member of the public in Clenchwarton, near King's Lynn, at about 5.30pm.

She was in the West Lynn Drain in the Fenland village, but it is understood she is not from the area and that the death was not suspicious.

The scene was cordoned off while officers from King's Lynn CID and scenes of crime officers carried out investigations. A post mortem was carried out at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn this morning.

A police statement said: “As a result officers are satisfied there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. A report has been compiled for Her Majesty's Coroner and an inquest will be opened in due course.”

A formal identification of the woman has not yet been carried out but it is believed she is from the Cambridgeshire area.
