Blog: Addressing your licence and those rude, pushy motorists
- Credit: Andy Russell
Motoring editor Andy Russell's latest blog asks if your licence is up to date and looks at the issue of pushy drivers.
When was the last time you looked at your driving licence? Do you know when it expires? Do you even know where it is?
If you're a bit vague about the answer to any of these questions don't worry as you're not alone.
According to research, 44% of Britons don't have the correct address on their driving licence, 32% don't know when it expires, 15% don't even know where it is and 9% the photo doesn't look like them anymore.
With all the hassle of moving home, it's easy to overlook updating the address on your licence and that was the case for half of those with the wrong one on it, and most of the rest didn't want to change it and just 7% didn't know they had to. says the survey by money-saving website www.VoucherCodesPro.co.uk
When I changed my photo driving licence, and it came back with the new picture of me, my wife told me how grey my hair had gone over the past 10 years. I pointed out it was a black and white photo, not a colour one, on the new licence. But would it be any wonder if I was fast going grey!

Pushy drivers need rude awakening
I often wonder if some people are really as rude and bad-mannered as they are when behind the wheel, safely cocooned in their cars.
I know I keep banging on about showing a bit more courtesy on the road but I despair how little consideration some drivers show to other road-users.
Why do some people feel they are clearly above getting in the correct lane early for the next turn on their route? Probably because they don't want to join a queue of traffic that is flowing slowly and safely.
They think it is much better to roar down the outside lane, pushing their luck to the limit to pass an many cars as possible, and put the left-hand indicator on at the last minute, giving them the right to pull across and cause people to brake suddenly to make room for them. What happens? At best, the traffic grinds to a halt. At worst, it cause a rear-end shunt further down the line.
And then you get patient drivers take exception to a vehicle trying to force its way into the queue and closing the gaps so there is no room. On a dual-carriageway I even saw a car, indicating left, stop in the right-hand lane and hold up the traffic while the driver waited for someone to let them in.
I bet they wouldn't just push their way into a queue of people at a supermarket checkout or bar because someone would say something. But, from the safety of their car, anything goes, and everyone else will just have to literally fit in around them.
There's also the drivers who sit on your back bumper, pass as you slow down for a queue of traffic ahead and slam on the brakes to stop having gone just one car ahead.
