A man is fighting for his life in hospital after his blazing motorbike ended up on the roof of a car this morning during a crash that brought the Norwich ring road to a standstill.

The accident took place just after 7am at the beginning of the early morning rush hour on Guardian Road at the junction with Winchcomb Road.

The biker was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with life-threatening injuries while the car driver of the car suffered serious injuries. It is also believed a lorry was involved in the accident.

Firefighters from North Earlham attended the scene along with four ambulances and traffic was snarled up along Guardian Road and Earlham Road as the route was blocked with diversions put in place along Bowthorpe Road.

Four police cars were blocking the road as the wreckage and a large fuel spillage were cleared.

A spokesman for Norfolk police said: “The road was shut by officers to allow them to carry out their duties.

“It is believed to have involved a lorry, car and motorbike. At this stage one casualty has received life threatening injuries.”
