People on the high street of a Norfolk town got an amazing up close view of nature in the raw in the aftermath of a sparrowhawk swooping on a white pigeon.

Passer-by Szandra Szabó captured this amazing footage on Tuesday night as the bird calmly sat on its prey in the middle of Mere Street in Diss.

Sparrowhawks are adapted for hunting smaller bird in confined spaces like dense woodland, but in recent years they have become more frequent sights in more urban settings and gardens and parks are ideal hunting grounds for them.

On the main road close to Diss Mere, this birds seemed unfazed by people or passing cars as it began to pluck its unlikely prey.

Ms Szabó, who is originally from Hungary but has lived in Diss for five years, said: 'At first I thought it was an injured bird when I saw it from the car, so I just stopped to check and pick it up if needed. Then I saw it was a hawk with its prey. I think it was very hungry because it didn't care about the cars and people around him. The cars almost hit him when they passed so I was so worried, but I just left him to finish his dinner. The dove was still alive when the hawk started to eat it.'
