The phone of missing Corrie McKeague has not been found following a search of a bin lorry seized by police.

Suffolk Constabulary is now renewing appeals for anyone with information about where the missing 23-year-old serviceman, or his phone, might be to come forward.

Mr McKeague has not been seen since disappearing after a night out last Friday.

His last known movements are in Brentgovel Street, Bury St Edmunds, where he was captured on CCTV.

Yesterday police announced a bin lorry which had travelled from Bury to Barton Mills was seized for examination because its movements matched that of Mr McKeague’s phone.

The phone, a Nokia Lumia 435, was traced by police looking for Mr McKeague, who lives at RAF Honington, and its movements matched those of the lorry.

However it has not been found and the bin lorry has been released by Suffolk Constabulary. The driver of the lorry was interviewed by police and searches will be undertaken at points the lorry may have discarded rubbish to see if there was a phone in the refuse.

Now attention is turning to finding any trace of Mr McKeague’s phone, thought to have been in a black PVC leather case which is described as frayed and worn around the edges.

As part of the investigation so far police officers have been reviewing hours of CCTV footage held by the local council.

They are also speaking to businesses about viewing private CCTV recordings and are asking people with private CCTV to contact the force if they think their footage may be able to help.

Market traders who may have been setting up stalls early on Saturday morning are being asked to come forward as well if they have not already spoken to police.

Suffolk Constabulary continues to receive support from Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue volunteers, RAF personnel and the National Police Air Service helicopter, which has been up in the Bury area this morning.

Following the media conference yesterday, in which Mr McKeague’s police officer mother Nicola Urquhart spoke about how the family was coping with his disappearance, police have received a small number of calls.

Suffolk Constabulary is continuing to ask anyone who may have seen Corrie during the evening of September 23 into the early hours of the following day to come forward as soon as possible.

Temporary Superintendent Kim Warner said; “We would like to thank all those who have spoken to us and assisted with the enquiry to date, however we still need anyone who can help to come forward.

“If you were out in the Bury, Honington or Barton Mills area between Friday night and Saturday and saw Corrie we need to speak to you.

“He was wearing distinctive light clothing – a pink polo shirt and white jeans or trousers – and was friendly and engaging with a number of people during the course of the evening.

“While we’re particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen him after 3.20am on Saturday 24 we also need to talk to you if you saw him during the evening.

“Our key appeal is for anyone with information that may help to come forward as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should call the incident room on 01473 782019.

Corrie’s family have asked that any information that is being posted onto their social media is directed to police, as they are receiving a large number of messages. If you have any information please call the number above or visit Suffolk Constabulary’s Facebook page.
