Young skaters have secured Great Yarmouth's best-ever medal haul at a national competition.

Retroskate Artistic Roller Skating Club came back from the annual FARS (Federation of Artistic Roller Skating) competition with a cabinet full of silverware.

Held in Kettering 34 skaters aged from seven to 21 years competed in figures and freestyle across all standards.

In all they scooped 38 medals, including 12 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze.

Eight-year-old, Daisy Self picked up the first medal of the two-day event - gold in the tots ladies figure group, retaining her title from last year.

The club's youngest skater Angel Adams, aged seven, placed 4th and Alfie Gooch, also seven, came 2nd in the tots men.

Solomon Read picked up gold in the men's mini event, while in the mini ladies figure event, Megan Tubby won gold, Fraia Wicks in 2nd.

Eva Simpkins won gold in Espoir ladies starting a Retroskate 1-2-3 with Molly Self and Abi Coleman coming home with 2nd and 3rd. In the Espoir mens Harlee Wicks won gold, Destiny Widdowson looped her way to 2nd place in cadet ladies with Daisy Jennings in 3rd.

Continuing with figure success, novice skaters were split into three groups, Maddie Parrott took silver and Emilia Popova bronze in 10 years and under, with Rose Worth skating her way to bronze in a large group of 22 skaters aged 11/12 years.

Siobhan Jaye came home with 2nd in elementary figures, Angel Widdowson 3rd in inter-bronze, Savannah Canham 2nd with Dulcie Read 3rd in youth ladies and Danielle Tuddenham 2nd in the highest event of the day - senior.

Summer Knight kicked off the free medal tally winning 2nd place in novice nine years and under, followed by another Retroskate 1-2-3 in novice 10 years, Emilia Popova gold, Matilda Powling 2nd and Maddie Parrott 3rd. Angel Widdowson picked up a 2nd place in inter-bronze and Danielle Tuddenham won gold in bronze free.

The second day saw Daisy Self pick up her second gold, while Alfie picked up 3rd in tots men.

Bethanie Bowles took 3rd in novice aged 13 years, Solly took gold in the men's mini free, with Fraia 2nd and Megan 3rd in the mini ladies.

In Espoir Eva graced the podium again for gold with Molly in 3rd place.

Harlee once again won gold with one of the highest marks of the weekend.

The much-anticipated cadet groups took to the floor with Destiny jumping her way to 3rd.

Christoph Prior skated his way to 2nd in the men.

Finally all eyes were on the rink for the extremely tough youth freestyle ladies, Dulcie securing gold matching last year's success.

The team now look ahead to two international competitions and the British Championships in June.
