The former Post Office branch in Attleborough is to be turned into a charity shop.

Cancer charity Big C is planning to open its first new shop in three years at the building in the town's High Street.

Clive Evans, Big C's director of income generation and communications, said care was being taken to retain features reflecting the building's former use.

Mr Evans said the new shop would open at the end of May.

At the time the Post Office was criticised over the move due to a lack of transparency and insufficient public consultation.

Big C has called for donations of stock with which to fill its new shop fittings before the store opens its doors.

The charity has requested items including good-quality clothing, shoes and accessories, household objects, decorative accessories, books, CDs and bric-a-brac to be donated at drop-off days at the shop on Thursday, May 25 and Friday, May 26 from 10am and 4pm.

Volunteers are also needed to support shop managers in running the store. Duties include sorting stock and helping on the tills.

Big C has 10 other charity shops in towns and communities across Norfolk and Waveney, including a distribution centre, furniture emporium and craft supplies shop at Wymondham.

There is also a Bridal Boutique in Timberhill, Norwich.
