An on-going campaign to re-open a Norfolk village pub could end successfully by the end of this month.

Pulham St Mary Parish Council has put in a financial bid to buy a boarded up pub building so it can be turned into a community run asset in the heart of the village near Diss.

It has offered to buy the King's Head Inn from its owner Graham Scott.

The offer is until the end of the month and if accepted by Mr Scott would see the parish council use cash reserves and government grant schemes to fund the purchase.

The council's offer is based on a fresh evaluation report prepared by Diss-based TW Gaze.

Parish councillor Clayton Hudson said: 'We hope Mr Scott gives consideration to the offer that the parish council has made. It is a reasonable offer.

'We hope it will enable the village's pub to be re-opened.'

The King's Head Inn has been closed since 2007.

Last October Mr Scott lost a planning bid to South Norfolk Council which asked if the building could be torn down to make way for 18 homes on the site.

Mr Scott then asked in a rare move if the council would buy the building.

A petition was also set up by residents asking for the district council to compulsorily purchase the building.
