Sixteen-year-old student Bethany Kibble-White is Sheringham's new carnival queen.

The youngster from Woodhouse Close is doing A-levels at the local high school and has a Saturday job at Lloyds chemists in the town.

Mum Lisa said her daughter had enjoyed carnival ever since she was a small child and was pleased to have won the queen title, having previously entered the princess competition.

Bethany and attendants Stephanie West (19) and Laura Grief ( 16) were selected at a weekend event held at the Tyneside Club in the town, which saw nine girls enter the bid to be the next queen.

They were interviewed by compere Ellen Morris, a former carnival queen herself, before having private one-to-one interviews with a panel of five judges,

Bethany won a 150 cash prize, the attendants 100 and during the carnival they will all get ball gowns, jewellery and bouquets from local businesses Olivias, Treasures and the Flower Shop. Their hair will be styled by Oscars and Sullivans for the crowning on July 31, with makeup and nails by Beauty Box.

Sheringham carnival runs from Saturday July 30 to Sunday August 7 when the week long programme of events culminates in parade day. Details at www.sheringhamcarnival.co.uk
