Two Norfolk mothers who lost children in road crashes are appealing for other bereaved friends and families to support each other and attend their new drop-in centre.

Liz Voysey and Bridget Wall have created a compassionate friends group to help those who have lost loved ones in traffic collisions. The first session in on Tuesday, March 27 at Dereham Fire Station.

Mrs Voysey's 19-year-old daughter Amy Upcraft was killed on the A47 in March 2004 and Bridget Wall, from Swaffham, lost her son, Adam, 24, in a crash on the A47 in March 2002.

Both women, who have been spearheading a campaign for tougher sentences for drivers who cause collisions, hope their monthly drop-in centre will help fill the gap in the support services for people close to road crash victims.

Mrs Voysey, from Dereham, said: “Our group is for anybody who has been bereaved or who has been seriously injured as a result of a road crash.

“The first session will just be like a chat for people to say hello and share their experiences with others. There will also be information available from the charities Brake and Roadpeace.

“We will see what people want from the group and then decide how it will develop. As well as offering each other support we hope in future the meetings we will also include things like aromatherapy and reflexology to offer a bit of a “feelgood factor.”

Ken Rogers, from Toftwood, has already offered to do Indian head massages for the group in future sessions and Jayne Arnold, also from Toftwood, will do aromatherapy.

A counsellor who is branching out into trauma counselling is also offering her services and the group is looking for other people who are keen to get involved.

The first support session will be on Tuesday, March 27 between 7pm to 9pm at the meeting room in Dereham Fire Station. The sessions will then be on the last Tuesday of every month.
