A director of one of the region's best-loved attractions had the opportunity to meet the Princess Royal during a conservation trip.

Gary Batters, director of conservation and education at Banham Zoo, was in Madagascar as the president of The Lemur Conservation Association (AEECL).

The charity aims to protect and conserve lemurs in and around the Sahamalaza Iles Radama National Park.

During her visit Princess Anne was given a tour of the AEECL field station, had a lemur spotting session and met with Mr Batters and a number of representatives and Madagascan officials.

Banham Zoo and its sister park Africa Alive!, have supported AEECL for many years.

AEECL's work in conserving lemur species within the Sahamalaza National Park is vital to save them from extinction. The AEECL's flagship species is the blue-eyed black lemur a critically species.
