The community in Banham, where East Harling muder victim Peter Wrighton lived, have spoken of their shock and sadness at hearing of his death.
Jon Wise, owner of Banham Butchers, said: 'I am very surprised and saddened by the news. I'm shocked it's so close to home.
'Mr Wrighton was one of my customers - he seemed a very kind and polite gentleman.
'I send my condolences to all his family.
'I hope they find whoever did this.'
Breckland councillor Adrian Joel said: 'As a local councillor my sympathy goes out to his family.
'We like to protect people and I am very sad this has happened and my condolences go out to the family.
'I am sure the police will be working hard to find out who the culprit is - of course this will not bring Mr Wrighton back.

'Fifty-four-year-old Graham Hancey who has lived in the area all his life and whose family own a farm nearby to Mr Wrighton's home said: ' I didn't know him vey well but his house was built on our land.
'I used to see him in his garden when I was working in the fields. He used to wave at me. He used to walk his dogs and my partner who has dogs spoke to him.
'I spoke to him once about cutting down trees that he needed cutting down. I think he was a very quiet, private person and very polite.
'We saw the police down there a few days ago and thought it might be him.'
