Aylsham Show hands out 33,000 to local charities

A flock of good causes has been given a 33,000 hand out from the Aylsham Show after another successful summer event.

Retiring president and Itteringham farmer Jimmy Fowell handed out cheques to a range of representatives at the annual distribution of proceeds from the popular one day agricultural show and family day out held at Blickling Park, on August Bank Holiday Monday.

The event has given hundreds of thousands of pounds to local groups and organisations over its long history stretching back more than 60 years.

After the annual council meeting held at the Aylsham Motel, members elected North Norfolk businessman George Bell as president of the Aylsham Agricultural Show Association and Bill van Poortvliet, who farms at Banningham, was elected president-elect.

A cheque for 3,500 was presented to Peter Day on behalf of Reepham and District Rotary Club for East Anglia Children's Hospices (Each) and other local charities.
