Dr Mark Felton's gripping true story, Castle of the Eagles: Escape from Mussolini's Colditz, follows a group of British and Commonwealth officers held prisoner in an 'escape-proof' war camp, on the personal order of Benito Mussolini.

Movie rights for the tale were snapped up last year by Entertainment One films and more details regarding pre-production have recently emerged.

The script is being written by BAFTA award winner Jeff Pope, whose previous work includes Philomena (starring Steve Coogan and Judi Dench), Little Boy Blue and Cilla.

Producing the film are Xavier Marchand and Brad Luff.

Marchand's credits include Spotlight, which won Best Picture at the 2016 Oscars and The Woman in Black, while Luff has recently worked on US fantasy show Siren.

It is unclear yet as to when production will begin. To find out more visit markfelton.co.ukMORE: Norwich writer publishes 20th book
