The company is bringing the show Sleeping Beauty to the city venue on June 24 and 25, and is looking for 100 young performers aged eight to 18 to appear in the show.

Auditions are taking place next month, and those who are successful will perform on the Theatre Royal stage alongside the English Youth Ballet's professional principal dancers who have appeared for the likes of the English National Ballet and Boston Ballet.

The opportunity ties in with the company's ethos of giving young dancers professional experience close to where they live.

Ben Garner, of English Youth Ballet, said: 'Once selected, they benefit from being coached and mentored by the professional dancers in an 11-day rehearsal period which takes place out of school hours.

'They gain a unique insight into what it is like to be a professional dancer and parents have said it has also helped boost children's confidence.'

The Sleeping Beauty production tells the story of the title character Aurora who pricks her finger on her 16th birthday and falls into a deep sleep after being cursed by the evil Carabosse.

Only the kiss of a Prince can awaken her, but will the evil magic prevail or can Sleeping Beauty find her true love?

The production is helping to mark the 18th year of the English Youth Ballet, which is headed by director Janet Lewis. She enjoyed an illustrious dancing career performing for the Royal Ballet and London Festival Ballet, dancing alongside dancing greats such as Dame Margot Fonteyn and Rudolph Nureyev.

Auditions - which will be held on Monday, March 7 at Sprowston Community High School - will take the form of a ballet class with the EYB team.

Anyone interested should email misslewis@englishyouthballet.co.uk to find out more.

The auditions for young people aged 8 to 11 will be from 5pm and auditions for those aged 12 to 18 will be from 7pm.

Sleeping Beauty is at Norwich Theatre Royal from June 24 and 25. Tickets £7-£22.
