Hollywood memorabilia and props from a James Bond movie are being lined up for an auction to raise money for a memorial to Royal Anglian troops killed in Afghanistan.

Hollywood memorabilia and props from a James Bond movie are being lined up for an auction to raise money for a memorial to Royal Anglian troops killed in Afghanistan.

The items are among scores of lots that will be sold off to help the £100,000 Royal Anglian Afghanistan Memorial Fund reach its target.

Already, £57,000 has been raised towards building a permanent memorial to the nine soldiers killed in the conflict this summer and also to help rehabilitate the troops who were badly injured.

Avril Randell from Skeyton near Aylsham is co-ordinating the collection of some of the auction pieces and has a number of friends in the 1st battalion Royal Anglian Regiment.

She said: “We have some fantastic items to sell off from James Bond props from Goldeneye, signed scripts from the American TV series NCIS, plus prints and paintings including four from the well-known Gibraltar artist Vin Misfud.”

The auction will be held after a medal presentation ceremony at the 1st battalion's base at the Elizabeth Barracks, Pirbright in Surrey.

TV actor Ross Kemp will be the auctioneer, having established a close affinity with the battalion while making a documentary about their tour of Afghanistan this summer.

The battalion acknowledges that the auction is only open to soldiers, their families and friends because it will be held on the base, but they realise some of the items could attract bids from a wider audience. To enable more people to bid for some of the items, plans are under way to display them on the Royal Anglian website and accept advanced bids.

Other items up for grabs is tea for two at the House of Commons from North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb, items of rare China and a holiday in a villa near Rome.

The battalion is hoping to raise more than £10,000 from the event.

Mrs Randell said: “In the meantime, we are still looking for more items and I'm happy to collect items.”

Anyone who wishes to donate an auction item can call her on 01692 538341.
