Townsfolk gathered last week to mark the retirement of Alan Fallows, who has been caretaker and manager of the Connaught Hall in Attleborough for the last 27 years.

Mr Fallows was forced to take early retirement due to ill health. At a presentation on Friday, he was handed a monetary donation which had been donated by the town's market traders, trustees of the Connaught Hall, clubs which use the hall and staff.

Pete Thatcher, chairman of the Connaught Hall gave a speech about Mr Fallows' time working at the hall and he presented him and his wife Mary with the money and a bouquet of flowers.

The surprise of the evening for him was the Connaught Hall bar being named 'The Fallows' after him and a plaque was revealed in place above the bar. Town mayor Karen Pettitt also attended the evening.
