A Norfolk company has today launched a new website to help commuters hit by the snowy weather.

Attleborough firm Liftshare is urging the owners of 4x4 vehicles to sign up to assist people affected by the wintery conditions.

Four-wheel drive vehicles are better equipped for the icy road conditions and 'ShareMy4x4.com' allows members to either offer a lift in their 4x4, or search for someone with a 4x4 who is going their way.

Ali Clabburn, founder and managing director of the social enterprise, said the free website would help drivers to save money and improve safety.

'This weather may make for some picturesque views, but with parts of the UK facing up to 25cm of snow, it can cause a lot of problems when you need to be somewhere.'

'People have missed work and important meetings, and even been stranded overnight in their cars. So we really need to help each other out, to ensure that the UK is able to carry on as productively as possible during this unexpected weather,' he said.

The car sharing company was formed by Mr Clabburn in 1998 and has more than 400,000 members across the country. The firm is one of the EDP's Future50 class of 2011 of up and coming local businesses.
