A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder today after a woman's body was found in a burned out caravan at a travellers' site.

Police said a 47-year-old woman had also been arrested on suspicion of conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

Both are believed to be from the Wisbech area.

The dead woman was found after fire crews put out a burning caravan at Turf Fen Bridge, Murrow, near Wisbech, in the early hours of yesterday.

A man was also taken to hospital suffering from the affects of severe smoke inhalation.

The dead woman and man have not yet been named and other details such as their ages have not been revealed.

Earlier, police said the woman's death was “unexplained” and a post mortem examination would be carried out to ascertain how she died.

Officers are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to contact them.

Det Chief Insp Mark Alexander said: “If any friends, family or acquaintances of the man or woman feel they have any information to help with the investigation into either the unexplained death or the fire, please contact officers.”

Anyone with information should call 0845 456 4564.
