West Norfolk's deputy mayor Geoff Hipperson led tributes to currently-serving members of our armed forces at the raising of the British Armed Forces Day flag in Tower Gardens today. He was joined by the High Sheriff of Norfolk Charles Watt.

All three armed forces were represented at the ceremony along with the Royal British Legion and Royal Air Forces Association.

There was a reading from a mayor's cadet before prayers led by Canon Christopher Ivory, rector at Lynn Minster. The ceremony ended with the National Anthem.

Armed Forces Day's purpose is to honour the past achievements of all branches of our military, the dedication of those currently serving in it and the career opportunities that the armed forces offer future generations.
