The beach and a pint on the coast are some of the things renowned actor Tim Bentinck loves about West Norfolk.

Mr Bentinck, who is perhaps best known for playing David Archer on the long-running BBC Radio 4 series The Archers, has lent his support to the Love West Norfolk campaign.

His connections with the Fens dates back to the 17th century - the Bentinck family arrived from Holland in the late 1600s, bought and drained land, and are still commemorated today in place names around King's Lynn, including Bentinck Dock.

His father grew up in Heacham and Mr Bentinck himself currently resides near Burnham Market.

He said: 'The thing I love most about West Norfolk is that it's not on the way to anywhere - people are only there because it's their destination.

'It has an identity that is unlike anywhere else which I feel would be spoiled if they ever built a motorway; a dual carriageway to Norwich is quite enough thank you!

'Our favourite place is Holkham Beach, huge skies, and always uncrowded, even when there's a ton of cars in the car park.

'A rewarding pint and a meal in any of the lovely pubs on the coast, then home to a roaring log fire - that's my perfect day.'

A graduate of the University of East Anglia with forty years of work on stage, screen and television, Mr Bentinck has recently published his autobiography Being David Archer - And Other Unusual Ways of Earning a Living.

Mr Bentinck joins hundreds of people who have also backed the campaign, many of whom shared their views online on Love West Norfolk day on Valentine's Day.

Campaign organisers have said more than 200 people got involved on Twitter, including those from as far afield as Wales, Nottingham, Lincolnshire, and Ely.
