Organisers of the annual Southwold Lions Fete are appealing for more stall holders to sign up for the event.

The fete, being held on Southwold common on May 30, has been running for 40 years and attracts thousands of visitors.

In recent years the number of stalls has decreased.

Organisers are keen to see it grow again and are now trying to encourage more non-commercial stalls to book in.

Lions member Phil Slater said: 'We have lost a few stalls over the last couple of years for various reasons such as people retiring. We are hoping to get a few more stalls in to bring it back up to what it was two or three years ago.

'It would be nice to have more charity or craft stalls, any stall that wants to come really.'

The fete will feature about 60 stalls as well as traditional attractions such as a dog show, brass band, Punch and Judy show, donkey rides, hot food and cakes, a bar and games.

A much-loved fibre glass horse, named Nervous Neddy, will be making a welcome return this year. The 40-year-old horse has been refurbished and will be formally unveiled at the start of the fete by the new Southwold mayor.

Proceeds from the day will be used to support good causes in communities east of the A12, from Kessingland Dam down as far as Aldeburgh.

The event will get under way at 11am with a parade from the town hall to the common and will finish at 5pm.

The price for a single registered charity stall is £20 and a single craft stall is £30. Contact Phil Slater on 01502 722187 or email grandad_dumpling@btinternet.com to book.
