Dozens of Triumph TR sports cars are set to return to Burnham Market for an annual show following a successful 40th anniversary celebration event in the village.

More than 55 Triumph TRs, ranging from a 1953 TR2 to a 1980 V8 TR8, were at The Hoste in Burnham Market to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Wensum TR Club.

The group of immaculate TRs filled the car park at The Hoste and displayed an array of original TR model colours including British Racing Green, Old English White, Valencia Blue, Pimento Yellow and Signal Red.

One of the most outstanding vehicles was an Ice Blue TR2, the 48th ever to be manufactured (in October 1953).

Its current owner, Tim Collins, completely rebuilt the car after it was discovered abandoned in a wood in Kent.

Mr Collins said: 'It took me two years to restore the car, but it was certainly worth it.

'This was one of the cars shipped to Ceylon in the 50s, as is clearly shown by the badges on its radiator grill.'

Former Wensum group leader, Spike Thorne had travelled from Slovenia for Sunday's event.

He said: 'The attraction of the TRs is that they are simple, rugged and affordable.'

He added: 'Compared to modern vehicles, they are relatively easy to look after for someone with basic mechanical skills.'

Production finally halted for these classic vehicles in the early 1980s.

They remain more popular than ever, with some Wensum Group members owning several TRs.

Group Leader David Solomon said: 'They cost between £10,000 and £50,000, which is relatively good value for a car with so much prestige. They are very collectable'.

It was the first time that many of the TR club members had visited The Hoste.

The beautiful weather added to the success of the day, which is planned to be an annual event.

Brendan Hopkins, owner of The Hoste and a TR owner for 40

years, said 'We were delighted to be chosen as the venue for this special anniversary event and we look forward to welcoming all Wensum TR members back to The Hoste next year'.
