The vision to revamp Anglia Square – a key part of Norwich – has certainly divided opinion.
Some have welcomed the bid to revive the area with 1,200 new homes, a hotel and leisure complex as a boost for the economy. But Historic England is so against the plans it will carry on fighting if it is approved.
The heritage body has concerns that are valid to raise about the impact it will have – not least the proposed tower.
Yet most people agree the area needs some sort of development.
There will always be opposing views – debate is healthy and ensures the best outcome for everyone – but the planning process is designed to hear all sides and come to a decision based on a fair evaluation of the evidence. We need good, honest and open debate. But once a decision has been made, we can't continue to fight old battles.
