A woman has allegedly been raped in the toilets of Great Yarmouth Library.

A 24-year-old Gorleston man was arrested on suspicion of rape following an incident on Friday (November 22).

One of the public toilets at the Tolhouse Street library remained cordoned off over the weekend as a police investigation into the alleged attack got underway.

A spokesman for Norfolk police said: 'Police received a call just before 8.30pm on Friday evening reporting a young woman had been sexually assaulted in the toilet at Great Yarmouth Library.

'Officers attended and a cordon was put in place.

'A short time later a 24-year-old Gorleston man was arrested on suspicion of rape.

'He was interviewed in connection with the incident and police are continuing their investigation into what happened.'
