A world record bid is being made today for the most people dressed as The Beatles pop group in the animated film Yellow Submarine.

The idea for the attempt is to co-incide with Great Yarmouth Sea Life Centre's new attraction - a yellow submarine in which visitors can get up close and personal underwater with marine creatures.

There will be free entry to anyone dressed as a member of the famous Sixties band today - Saturday, July 29.

Adults and children are all welcome to take part in the record break, when all those in Beatles fancy dress will gather around the ray tank to enjoy Beatles tunes and have their photos taken in front of the submarine, before enjoying a free tour. To qualify people must wear full fancy dress, head to toe.

The record for 'the most Beatles gathered in one area' currently stands at 294, when costumed fans gathered in Mexico City's Chapultepec Park in November 2015.

Event organiser Maxine Culleton, centre marketing manager, said: 'It's a chance for visitors not only to have a chance at making history, but to have a free visit of our aquarium, which is home to thousands of stunning sea creatures, so everyone is really excited.'

The Beatles scored a UK top hit with Yellow Submarine in 1966. It featured as part of a soundtrack for the psychedelic animated film of the same name. It was one of only a handful sung by drummer Ringo Starr.

Sea Life's own yellow submarine forms the central part of a new feature. The sub sits at the centre of a newly-built giant ray tank where visitors are able to see rays closer than ever through windows and magnifying viewers.

The area also features creatures from around the British coastline and is home to the big fish tank, with pacu and other fish that grow up to a metre long.

Anyone taking part in the record attempt needs to arrive for 1pm this afternoon.
