Curiouser and curiouser! Alice in Wonderland takes over Norwich

Alice, the Queen of Hearts, the Mad Hatter and the White Rabbit are hosting a treasure trail through the maze-like configuration of stalls at the Norwich Market.

Among the clothing, food and flower stalls are hidden clues and directions for those who fall down the rabbit hole.

Each participant will be handed a map and follow Alice through the narrow path of the market to earn their prize.

The event at Norwich Market hopes to attract visitors and promote the beaming atmosphere of the city centre. Lisa Wyatt and her 10-year-old daughter, Suzie, are on holiday from Oxford and stumbled in to wonderland while perusing the markets.

'We've been on holiday for seven days and we are going home tomorrow. This is brilliant for the kids,' Ms Wyatt said yesterday.

Market stall bakery Norwich Providore said it had seen more foreign customers come to the store and walk around the market. 'Yesterday and today, there have been a lot of foreign people come through the market,' Denise Arger, 60, from Norwich said.

Norwich in Wonderland is a part of the Love Your Local Market campaign. The event celebrates local communities and markets.

This is the second Alice in Wonderland theme event of the week, as Strangers Hall hosted the Wonderland Family Day.

Cathy Terry, senior curator at Stranger's Hall in Norwich, said: 'Stranger's Hall has a large collection of toys and children's books and one of the most popular ever is Alice in Wonderland.

'Around the museum there is a trail with little cardboard characters to spot. You can take a selfie with the White Rabbit or March Hare and there are people dressed up as the Queen of Hearts and playing cards,' Ms Terry said.

She said: 'You can use inflatable flamingos to play croquet, although not with hedgehogs.'

The Alice in Wonderland trail at Stranger's Hall will be on all week, while Norwich in Wonderland at the markets will end today.
