Norwich's Chapelfield shopping centre was evacuated this afternoon.
Shoppers were ordered to leave the complex at just after 1pm. Witnesses said people were rushing to get out and the shutters on shops were being pulled down.
But staff at the centre said the evacuation was a precaution after an alarm was triggered in one of the shops and people were subsequently allowed back in.
Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service was not called to attend.
