Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service received “a number of 999 calls” following a fire which ripped through a roof and a number of outbuildings on Ipswich Road, close to the junction with Locksley Road at Tuckswood at just after 7.15pm tonight (Saturday, March 3).

About 45 to 50 firefighters were sent to the operation, with 10 appliances at the scene at the height of the blaze, including crews from Sprowston, Earlham, Carrow, Wroxham, Long Stratton, Wymondham, Hethersett.

The aerial ladder platform has also been in use, spraying water on to the roof of the home and firefighters were wearing breathing apparatus.

Smoke can be seen billowing from the scene of the fire which is thought to involve one house and a number of outbuildings.

Group manager Richard Smith, from the fire service, said: “We’re currently attending a fire in a property on Ipswich Road.

“We attended a fire in some outbuildings and the roof of one of the properties and have evacuated a row of properties while we extinguish the fire.

“When crews first got there the flames were quite significant - probably about 10 to 15 feet in height and lots of smoke logging but they did really well to bring it under control.”

Mr Smith said there had been someone in the property which caught fire but that they were out safely and in the care of neighbours.

He said no-one was hurt in the fire.

by 10.30pm a number of fire crews had left the scene, but other crews, including the aerial platform remained on the scene damping down. They are expected to continue to do so for a number of hours.

Mr Smith said an investigation into what started the blaze would begin tomorrow (Sunday, March 4) morning.

Police had closed Ipswich Road at the junctions with Hall Road and Daniels Road while firefighters tackled the blaze, while blue police tape prevented cars from getting onto Ipswich Road from Locksley Road.
