Two men have died after a crash between a coach and a van.

Emergency services were called to Constitution Hill in King's Lynn at about 5.20pm on Wednesday, January 17 after a coach and a transit van were involved in a collision near to the Hardwick roundabout.

The passenger of the van was pronounced dead at the scene.

The A47 at King's Lynn has reopened this morning following an earlier closure.

Fire appliances from King's Lynn North, Kings Lynn South, Terrington and Downham Market attended the scene and assisted police and ambulance services.

The driver of the van was cut free from the vehicle and taken to the nearby Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance but died a short time later. The driver and passengers on board the coach suffered slight bruising and went to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.

The A47 was closed in both directions while emergency services responded and while collision investigators carry out initial enquiries.

Police and Crime Commissioner Lorne Green described the collision as 'an absolute tragedy'.

'My heart goes out to the families and friends of the victims,' he said. 'The constabulary are making every effort to improve road safety. We do not know the circumstances yet and we can only say it is two more lives tragically lost on the roads. It is just appalling.

'There will be no let-up in our efforts to enhance road safety.'
