An inquest has opened into the death of a driver's mate who died on an A47 accident blackspot.

Mark Rodwell, 47, of West End Lane, New Rossington, Doncaster, died on February 1 at Scarning near Dereham after a collision involving two lorries.

The accident took place on a straight section of road between the A1075 and A1065, where previous fatal accidents have taken place, at around 8.30am.

During today's inquest opening at Norwich's Carrow House, assistant coroner Jonanna Thompson said Mr Rodwell's cause of death was multiple injuries due to a road traffic collision.

She added Mr Rodwell worked as a driver's mate and was sitting next to the driver of one of the lorries involved in the crash.

The A47 at Scarning was closed for several hours after the accident, which is being investigated by Norfolk Police.

One of the lorry drivers involved suffered minor injuries.

Tributes were left, following the days after the accident.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or the manner of driving of either vehicle prior to the incident should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101.

A full inquest into the death of Mr Rodwell is due to take place at Carrow House on August 13.
