Drivers warned of overnight closures on A47 as part of upgrade plans

The Acle Straight will be closed overnight for another fortnight while overnight safety upgrades and resurfacing work is carried out.

Highways England, who maintain the A47, is diverting drivers via Filby and Caister while the works are ongoing.

There was then a break in December before the works resumed last week.

For residents living within the road closure and needing access to their homes during the hours of road works, an escort will be provided to ensure safe access to their homes.

But residents were warned they may experience delays while waiting for a safe route through the works area.

Currently there are several major roadworks going on along the A47 and near Great Yarmouth town centre.

Apology

In a letter sent out to residents when the works began, Highways England project sponsor Andrew Dyer apologised to drivers for any inconvenience.

He added: “Highways England operates, maintains and modernises the strategic road network in the East of England.

“We are committed to making journeys more reliable and ensuring that the region’s roads are fit for now and for the future.

“Once completed, the works will provide a better quality of road surface and improved road signs for road users.

“We will be delivering these schemes one after the other, working from the Acle roundabout first and then eastwards.

“This will mean that the diversion routes will not coincide or clash.”
