Emergency services were called to the A140 at Tasburgh at around 5.30pm on Wednesday, October 3 following a crash just before the Hempnall crossing.

The incident happened near the junction with Quaker Lane, when a grey Fiat 500 travelling towards Diss left the road and collided with a tree.

The driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old girl, died at the scene.

People who live in Tasburgh yesterday said the road had been a danger for many years.

Christine Hammett has lived in Tasburgh since 2004. When driving to Long Stratton, two and a half miles south of the village, she takes back roads.

She said: 'It is such a danger especially the junctions at Tasburgh and Hempnall.

'The difficulty is you can't see round the corner and the cars travel at such speed.

'When I go to Long Stratton I don't bother with the A140 because there is no chance of safely pulling out.'

Tony De'Bell, landlord of The Countryman Freehouse, which is on the A140, said the problem is enforcement.

He said: 'We have had signs knocked down by lorries and our windows and doors shake when they go past too fast.

'The problem is enforcement. Lowering the speed limit would make it safer but there is no enforcement of the current speed limit.'

Many residents feel a roundabout at Hempnall junction, like one installed at Pullham Market in 2009, would make the road safer.

After the crash, police officers appealed for witnesses to the crash to come forward, and are seeking any dashcam evidence from around the time.

A police spokesman said: 'Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or have information concerning the driving manner of the Fiat prior to the incident.'

Police would like to talk to the drivers of a dark BMW 1 Series, a five-door Ford Fiesta, a blue Peugeot 307 and a white Ford Transit van that were seen in the area at the time.
